What is UGC Link Attribute?

The UGC link attribute rel= "ugc" is used to indicate that a link was uploaded to a site by a user or visitor. For example, links posted in a blog’s comment section should contain a UGC link attribute to indicate they were posted by a visitor and not by the site owner.

UGC means User Generated Content. Google introduced the UGC link attribute as part of its improvement to the nofollow link attribute in 2019. The UGC link attribute allows bloggers to provide Google with specific information about a link.

Google mentioned that it doesn’t explicitly ignore links marked with the UGC link attribute. Instead, it uses the attribute to understand the context and purpose of the link and whether it should be used for ranking purposes.
