What is Google Caffeine?

Google Caffeine was a major algorithm update that improved the freshness of the pages served in search results. The update allowed Google to index webpages faster, allowing it to display them in search results soon after they were published or updated.

Caffeine refers to the web indexing system that replaced Google’s old web indexing system. Unlike the old system, which required several weeks to display newly published or updated content in search results, Caffeine updates continuously. This allowed Google to show new and updated content in search results faster than it previously did.

Google announced the Caffeine update in a blog post published on June 9, 2010. In the blog post, Google mentioned that Caffeine allowed it to deliver 50% fresher results compared to the old indexing system.
