In this knowledge base tutorial, we are going to learn about the Import-Export options in Rank Math. Rank Math has built-in capabilities to export and import all of its settings, which is essential not only for backup purposes but also useful when you start using Rank Math on another website.
Let us start by navigating to Rank Math’s Import Export option by hovering over Rank Math’s menu icon and then clicking to Import Export.
The import-export options will appear. You will see only 2 sections.
Let’s start with the Export Settings.
The Export Settings is pretty simple to use. You have 4 types of settings to choose from.
- General Settings
- Titles & Metas
- Sitemap Settings
- Role Manager Settings
To export your settings, choose the settings panel that you want to export, then click Export.
A dialog box will appear, which will prompt you to save the settings file. Navigate to an appropriate location and save the file.
This will save your current settings as a JSON file on your computer. If you make any changes and want to back them up again, just repeat the process. You can also download multiple variations of your settings and back them up to test which ones perform better for you.
Now let us move on to the import settings.
Before you import your settings, we should clarify a couple of things.
First, when you import your settings, your existing Rank Math settings will be overwritten. To stay safe, always back up your setting.
Second, even if you import the most advanced settings, your website’s rankings might not improve overnight. Search Engines take time to understand your website when you make significant changes. Once you import your settings, wait for 3 to 4 weeks before taking further action. Now let us understand the actual import process.
The import process in Rank Math is also straightforward. Start by clicking the “Choose File” button.
A dialog box will appear which will ask you to select a setting file. Navigate to the location where you saved your setting file, then select the file you want to import, then click Open.
The dialog box will close, and you will notice the name of the file written next to the “Choose File” button. That means the setting file was selected. Click the import button to start the import process.
It might take a few seconds, but the page will refresh once the file is imported. Once the page reloads and the settings imported, you will also see a confirmation message on the screen as shown in the image below.
That covers the Import and Export options present in Rank Math. As you just saw, both the import and export tools are easy and straightforward to use with little room for error. However, if you have any doubts or even face issues while using this feature, feel free to open a support ticket.
