What is a Sitemap?
A sitemap is a file that provides humans and search engines with a list of web pages, images, videos, PDFs, and any other files present on your site.
There are two types of sitemaps, namely:
- HTML sitemap
- XML sitemap
The HTML sitemap provides your human visitors with an overview of the content on your site. Search engines may also use it to understand the hierarchy of the content.
On the other hand, XML sitemaps are used by search engines to find the content available on your site. Your competitors may also crawl it as part of their attempt to understand your content strategy.
