What is Google Panda?

Google Panda was a major algorithm update that demoted the rankings of sites with plagiarized, low-quality, or thin content and boosted the rankings of sites with high-quality content.

Google rolled out the Panda update on February 23, 2011, and continued to release more updates until July 17, 2015. In 2015, Google added Panda to its core ranking algorithm.

Google Panda was named after Google engineer Navneet Panda, who developed the technology used for the update. Google said it affected 11.8% of search queries. Some of the sites that benefitted from the Panda update are those sites that published research-style content and in-depth reports.
