Google’s Search Liaison confirmed the second part of the anti-spam update being rolled out today. The second part of the update will conclude the same day, similar to the first part rolled out last week.

Both the parts of the anti-spam update are global updates that targeted both web and image search results. The updates target mainly malicious websites that trick users into giving away their personal data or installing malware.

Fighting Spam

If your site’s SERP position is dropping today, you’ll need to scrutinize your website’s security and check if your website is playing by Google’s rules and guidelines. While hacked spam (hacking websites to spread spam) is still in practice, if you feel your website has been hacked, you can follow the tips provided by Google to fix your hacked website and remove the hacked content as soon as it appears.

Apart from hacked spam, there are also other spam practices that Google is concerned about. You should avoid getting involved with practices such as autogenerated content, link schemes, cloaking, hidden text or links, doorway pages, scraped content, and abusing structured data.
