What is a Top-Level Domain?

A top-level domain (TLD) is the last set of text in a domain name, such as .com, .net, .org, or .uk.

The top-level domain provides more information about the domain name. For example, .com indicates the domain is a commercial site, .net indicates it is a network, and .org indicates it is an organization.

Country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) like .uk indicate the site is based in the UK or is targeted at a UK audience. Similarly, .fr means the site is based in France or is targeted at a French audience.
