What is PageRank?

PageRank is an algorithm that Google uses to determine the importance of a webpage. It is named after the term ‘web page’ and Google’s co-founder, Larry Page.

PageRank analyzes the quality and quantity of the backlinks pointing to a webpage and then uses that to assign it a score between 1-10. Google then uses this PageRank to determine the rankings of a web page in search results.

PageRank is based on the premise that authoritative web pages and resources would receive more backlinks than less important ones. So, the more backlinks a webpage gets, the more authoritative it is assumed to be.
