What is Copilot?

Copilot is an AI-powered assistant integrated into multiple Microsoft products, including Windows, Edge, Bing, Outlook, and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote). Copilot is also available on multiple non-Microsoft products and apps, including Android, iOS, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

Copilot is a generative AI model. It exists as a free standalone chatbot, just like OpenAI’s ChatGPT en Google Gemini. You can ask the Copilot chatbot questions and prompt it to perform tasks.

Copilot also exists as a Bing search result page feature that returns AI-generated responses to your search queries. This is similar to AI Overviews, which returns AI-generated results on Google search result pages.

Copilot is powered by GPT-4, which is a large language model (LLM) developed by OpenAI. It is the same large language model powering OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
