Google announces the release of their anti-spam update that is focused on fighting spam in search results. The changes in the SERP position are expected only on low-quality sites that trick users into providing personal information or installing malware.

Google has confirmed the first part of the update is being concluded on June 23, 2021. And the second part of the algorithm will follow next week.

The search engine has continued to expand its measures in 2020 to identify spam with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and claims that their spam-fighting AI is now effective in catching both known as well as new spam trends.

SERP Changes

Unlike the Google core algorithm updates, the anti-spam update will be completed within a day, and the changes in the SERP position are likely to be noticed only on spam websites.

If your site’s SERP position drops down starting today, you’re expected to scrutinize your site’s security and look for signs of a possible attack. While hacked spam (websites being hacked to spread spam and malicious content) is still in practice, here is a detailed resource from Google on the most likely ways websites get compromised and the security measures you’ll need to take.
